SpaceX aborted a highly anticipated booster catch attempt Tuesday during the sixth test of Starship, the most powerful rocket ever built — just weeks after acing the stunning feat on the first try. But the mission went on to soar through new milestones during a roughly hour-long flight.

The nearly 400-foot-tall (121-meter) Starship system — which features the Starship spacecraft stacked atop the Super Heavy booster — lifted off around 5 p.m. ET from the company’s Starbase facility near Brownsville, Texas. President-elect Donald Trump was in attendance, joining SpaceX CEO Elon Musk for the event in another example of Musk’s increasing role in Trump’s orbit.
After firing up its 33 powerful Raptor engines and propelling the Starship spacecraft toward space, the Super Heavy booster separated from the spacecraft, reversed course and steered itself back toward the launch site. SpaceX planned to attempt a precision landing of the booster into the arms, or “chopsticks,” of the launch and landing structure — nicknamed “Mechazilla” by Musk — at the company’s Starbase facility. The company first pulled off the unprecedented maneuver during the fifth Starship test flight last month.

Julia Turshen wants you to break the rules.

Once she was ruled by weighing or measuring everything to the gram or teaspoon — due to her own self-described challenges with disordered eating and the requirement to be precise in the recipes she has developed for the cookbooks she’s penned or coauthored.

Over time, Turshen has learned to loosen up in the kitchen. And now she wants us to do the same. How? Through a series of charts.

“Keep Calm & Cook On” is the mantra (and podcast/newsletter name) from the Hudson Valley, New York-based author and food equity advocate, who introduced the concept of recipe charts on Instagram and in her Substack in 2023.
“One-pot rice + stuff” was the title of the first chart she shared on Instagram. Take some cooked rice, she coached, then choose a meat, a vegetable, spices, a liquid and toppings. This template style of culinary instruction garnered such a positive response, she followed up with soup, salad and cornbread charts — and quickly realized she had the makings of a book.

“The charts have given me a way to show how I think about cooking rather than tell you how I think about it,” Turshen said. “This isn’t just a collection of recipes but also a blueprint for how the recipes work. Understanding that is empowering and unlocks so much space to explore.”

In a busy world, the task of getting more movement into your daily life can often get put on the back burner.

But there’s a reason to rethink your priorities — getting as active as the top 25% of the US population could extend your life by at least five years, according to a new study published Thursday in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

“I was surprised to find that the loss of life years in the USA due to low levels of physical activity might rival the losses due to smoking and high blood pressure,” said senior study author Dr. Lennert Veerman, professor of public health in the School of Medicine and Dentistry at Griffith University in Australia, via email.

Many studies have examined the connections between physical activity and longevity. In fact, Veerman’s research was inspired by a 2019 study that found the risk of premature death lowered the more physical activity participants did, he said. The activity levels in that study were measured with accelerometers — wearable activity-tracking devices.

The 2019 study, along with others, had already shown that when measured with accelerometry, the relationship between physical activity and early death is about twice as strong when compared with levels gauged by surveys or questionnaires, Veerman said.

“I wondered how that would translate to life expectancy, and how much extra life time a single hour of walking might bring,” Veerman added.

The United States has returned more than 1,400 looted artifacts worth $10 million to India as part of an ongoing initiative to repatriate stolen art from countries across South and Southeast Asia, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office announced Wednesday.

The trafficked goods recovered include items that, until recently, were on view at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Among them is a sandstone sculpture of a celestial dancer that was smuggled from central India to London, before being illegally sold to one of the Met’s patrons and donated to the museum.

The repatriations resulted from “several ongoing investigations” into looting networks, including those operated by convicted art traffickers Nancy Wiener and Subhash Kapoor, an American antiquities dealer who was sentenced to 10 years in jail for running a multimillion-dollar looting network through his New York gallery, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said in press release.
